Hydrurga Leptonyx

Leopards are known for their speed and occur mostly along the northern edge of the Antarctic pack ice. The animal is slim and has a large head, a speckled fur, long flippers and formidable jaws. The female is taller and heavier than the male: she can reach four metres in length and 450 kg in weight. He mostly eats krill, but from time to time also puts away a penguin, a bird or a crabeater pup.

Leopard seals are solitary animals. Mating occurs in the water from November to February. In October and November the female gives birth to a single pup weighing about 30 kg and about 160 cm long.
