The 600 pound polar bear was spotted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police helicopter patrol about 15 km outside the town of St. Anthony on Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula.
A general warning has gone out to the residents of the town, to be careful and to keep their garbage and their pets inside.
The RCMP said there is no direct threat to public safety, but like to keep alert.
Conservation officers will decide what to do with the animal.
