State of the Arctic Conference
The State of the Arctic Conference will be held 16–19 March 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Miami in Miami, Florida, USA. The main goal of the conference is to review our understanding of the arctic system in a time of rapid environmental change.
It will provide an open international forum for discussion of future research directions aimed toward a better understanding of the arctic system and its trajectory. Topics will range from basic understanding of the Arctic and system-wide change to developing response strategies to adapt and mitigate change. The conference also will provide an opportunity for resource management and service agencies to link the most recent science findings to their objectives and priorities. All of the sessions have been designed to include human dimensions and social science research to ensure a balanced portfolio in conference talks and discussions.
The major conference science themes are listed below. All of the science themes have been designed to include human dimensions and social science research to ensure a balanced portfolio in conference talks and discussions.

- Advances in arctic system understanding - the basic functioning of the arctic system, including all of its human dimensions;
- Arctic change - rapid, system-scale changes and the capability to project future states of the arctic system under various scenarios;
- Linkages to the Earth system - linkages and feedbacks between the arctic system and the Earth system; and
- Translating research into solutions - informed solutions to the problems caused by environmental change.

AGU Chapman Conference on the Exploration and Study of Antarctic Subglacial Aquatic Environments (SAE)
The objectives of the conference are two-fold: first, to communicate to the wider community the most recent results and share expertise in planning subglacial aquatic environment (SAE) exploration programs. Secondly, to bring together a diverse group of experts that might not otherwise collaborate or interact to broaden the interdisciplinary nature of all aspects of SAE research. The conference will bridge existing knowledge to future research and will be a benchmark for SAE exploration and study. A longer-term objective is to create a sustainable, vibrant, and growing community of SAE researchers and enthusiasts.
Conference Format
The Conference will be three days and include six sessions: project updates, habitats for life, hydrology and ice sheets, sedimentary records, technology challenges and general discussion. Each session will begin with a one-hour keynote presentation followed by three half-hour invited presentations. Each session concludes with a forum for discussion. Following lunch each day, there will be a poster session on that day’s topics. Each day will end with a panel discussion by the presenters moderated by the conveners. The final session (6) will foster in-depth discussion and will be facilitated by the program committee. The schedule overview is available [.pdf].
