- There are some unique exhibitions and collections. One of them is a beautiful collection of Inuit objects from Greenland. They also have the skeleton of a Sperm whale on display in the entrance hall.

- On 8 January 2007, the National Maritime Museum Amsterdam closed its doors for a major renovation that will take more than two years. The Ship "Amsterdam" is still open for visits but now located at the Nemo Science Centre.

- Have a large collection of artifacts from the Arctic regions. From 23rd February 2010 till 1st May 2011, In the "Japan Gallerie, a unique collection of Canadian Inuit carvings, together with indigenous peoples' artifacts and jewelry from Siberia and Alaska will be on display. This fabulous collection was donated to the Museum by Hans van Berkel, who collected these items during the last 40 years.

- The muZEEum is housed near the harbour in Vlissingen and houses an impressive collection of items related to the Dutch seafaring history. At the muZEEum, there is an exhibition on Dutch whaling which will run till June 2009.

- Fantastic museum which features information and items of the famous Dutch explorer Willem Barentsz. The name of the museum is based on the name Willem Barentsz gave the hut on Nova Zembla he and his team built after their ship got caught in the ice. There is a replica of the "huys" . Many other items dealing with the area's connection to the sea and whaling can be found at the museum.
