EU puts energy and climate on security agenda

Energy security and climate change will be high on the agenda when the EU this week adopts its renewed European security strategy.

The European security strategy was drawn up for the first time in 2003 under the authority of the EU's High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, and adopted by the Brussels European Council in December 2003. A new EU security strategy is expected to be adopted in the EU summit 11-12 December 2008.
