Mating/Breeding: Colonial nester making seaweed nests on sea cliffs, rocks, islands, or occasionally sandy beaches. Two to three eggs are laid and incubated from 26 to 28 days and is carried out by both sexes. Chicks fledge at 49 to 56 days.
Eggs: 2-3 olive or pale brown eggs, spotted or blotched black
Hibernation: migrates south of Japan, but non-migratory if ice conditions allow
Feed on: fish, marine invertebrates, birds, chicks, eggs, and rodents
Colour/Body: The adult has pink legs and a mantle a shade darker than the Western Gull’s. The head, neck, and upper breast are streaked in winter. The eye of the adult Slaty-backed Gull is usually but not always pale. In flight, the adult Slaty-backed shows less black, and more white, in the wingtips than the Western Gull and a relatively broader white trailing edge of the wing.
