What is it like to work in Antarctica?

Antarctica is a fascinating place to work, and work depends on the station you're at, the time of year that you are there and the type of job you have while there. Certainly overwintering is the most rewarding option, but summer offers the most chances and more to see and do.

What type of jobs are available in Antarctica?

Jobs are either Scientific in nature or Logistic / Support in nature. The Scientist are selected by the relevant research organisations, and these typically require post graduate studies. Logistic or support jobs vary greatly, from plumbing and carpentry to mechanic or pilot.

Where can I find an Antarctic related job?

There is sadly no single place to find a job in Antarctica, each country or organisation has their own job sites or application procedures. Check the list of job sites on the 70South Job Links page, alternatively leave a message on the 70South Message board.

How many people live in Antarctica?

During the summer several thousand people live and work in Antarctica. Work includes research as well as support and logistic tasks that need doing to keep the base functioning thought out the winter. During the winter there are only a few hundred people on the entire continent.
