Location: (64°46'30"S, 64°03'04"W) On the southwestern coast of Anvers Island in the Antarctica Peninsula.

History

Palmer Station is named after Nathaniel B. Palmer, an American sealer.

Science

Palmer focuses mainly on the pelagic marine ecosystem (biological studies of birds, seals, and other components of the marine ecosystem). It has a large and well equipped laboratory and sea water aquaria. In addition to marine studies, Meteorology, upper atmosphere physics and glaciology research projects have been conducted at Palmer. Palmer station does a lot of work with the research ship R/V Lawrence Gould.
